Enlightening Light Bulb Tips
Enlighting Light Bulb Tips
Buying the right light bulb for the right lighting task can be overwhelming. A warm dimmable light can create and inviting atmosphere, and a bright cool light illuminates a room while shedding light and clarity. Our goal at JUELL is to break down this daunting process, making it slightly more user-friendly!
Incandescent
most commonly used and usually the least expensive
emits a warm yellow light which is very complementary to skin tones and psychologically appealing
lasts approximately 1,200 hours
wide degree of dimmability
not as energy efficient as the options
can be damaging to fabrics and artwork over time
Halogen
closest approximation to natural daylight, known as "white light" or full spectrum
colors appear sharper and brighter
can be dimmed
slightly more energy efficient that incandescent bulbs
lasts for approximately 3,600 hours
more expensive then incandescent
burns very hot
mostly used in under cabinet lighting, pendant lights and recessed cans
can be damaging to fabrics and artwork over time
Fluorescent
common in large spaces, ek: office buildings and grocery stores
light tends to be flat, cold, often bluish and harsh
most cannot be dimmed
typically produce light for about 10.000 - 50,000 hours
cost effective
like all fluorescent lights, it has trace amount of mercury, so care should be taken with breakage and disposing
FYI: there are multiple health related effects associated with fluorescent light
Compact Fluorescent
bulbs (CFL) consume a quarter of the energy that incandescent bulbs and last 10 times longer
unlike old fluorescent lights, CFLs are quiet and have warmer tones
can be used anywhere your would use a typical incandescent light bulb
most cannot be dimmed
like all florescent lights, it has trace amount of mercury, so care should be taken with breakage and disposing
FYI: there are multiple health related effects associated with fluorescent
LED
money and energy saving
typically lasts 50,000 hours or more
uses one tenth the energy of incandescent bulbs
works with dimmers
reduces environmental impact
provides only directional light making them ideal for under counter task lighting
Integrated LED
combines energy efficiency with convenience and longevity
typically lasts 50,000 hours or more
reduces your environmental impact
works with dimmers
"bulbs" come integrated with their fixtures, "bulbs" can't be replaced

In order to find out the correct number of Lumens needed for a room, multiply the square footage of that room by the Lumen number below.
Workspace or garage: 80-100 foot candles
Kitchen work areas: 70-80 foot candles
Bathroom: 70-80 foot candles
Home office: 60-80 foot candles
